Entrepreneurship is not easy. If you’ve spent just about any time turning what was once an idea into a profitable product or service — and endured the painstaking hours and toil necessary to successfully launch your business — you’ll know what we’re talking about. Since you’re here on our blog and you’re familiar with the notion of small business lending, we’re going to go ahead and assume that you’re quite familiar with how challenging small business ownership really is.

Addressing Stress In Light of World Mental Health Day

This entrepreneurial wellness post is inspired by the fact that it’s October 10th. While that may seem like any other day to you, it’s actually World Mental Health Day. This day is dedicated by the World Health Organization (WHO), and the idea behind this worldwide awareness day is to provide those affected by mental health issues a platform and opportunity to talk about their experiences and work toward a brighter and healthier tomorrow.

Our Invoice Factoring Experts Are Here to Help Your Business Thrive

Fortunately, running your own company doesn’t have to involve constant stress and never-ending days. Sure, sometimes it probably feels like there’s not enough time in the day to do what needs to be done, let alone eat, sleep, and take care your yourself. However, if you don’t take some time to yourself on a weekly basis, you’re doing yourself (and your business) a disservice.

In another blog post for small business owners, The Commercial Finance Group offers a number of stress-reducing tips and tricks designed to help you better manage your company. Don’t forget that as far as invoice factoring and accounts receivables financing goes, our Atlanta, Burbank, and Los Angeles locations have you covered.

Keep Track of Your Work Hours…

…and make sure that you’re not racking up too many of them. It’s one thing to work more than the standard 40 hours a week, but 80-100 hour weeks just aren’t healthy no matter how much you love what you do. It’s standard for small business owners to work more than full-time, but is it really worth subjecting yourself to excessive fatigue, illness, burnout, constant anxiety or even the potential of injury?

We know that this is easier said than done, but try to assign yourself a time during the business day as a “cutoff” from checking work-related emails, taking phone calls, or doing anything else that’s not related to personal time.

Maintain Interests Outside of Work

When you spend most of your time building up your small business, it’s easy to become a little bit “obsessed” with everything related to it. That’s somewhat akin to studying as a student and taking no free time to yourself. From a mental health perspective, it’s incredibly important to have and pursue other leisurely interests that aren’t work-related.

Don’t Neglect Your Physical Health

It’s easy to work through lunch or simply forget to eat when you’re constantly working. One moment, you’re talking to a supplier and the next, you’re interviewing a potential hire. In between these interactions, you spent time reviewing your inventory. All of these items take time, but at the end of the day (or, rather, before the end of the day), you should take some time to eat well and adequately hydrate.

After all, it’s your body and brain that’s allowing you to launch your business and it only makes sense to support their health. Ultimately, that translates to your health! Try to get a little exercise before the demands of the day begin to pile up, or unwind in a healthy way by hitting the gym after you’ve decided to drop work for the day.

Sleep, Sleep, Sleep

You will wear your body — and immune system — down to the point of getting sick should you forgo sleep in favor of work or work-induced insomnia. We get it; legitimate insomnia is a medical condition that’s often outside of your control. However, if you’re checking work emails and staring at the blue light on your phone screen while you head is on the pillow, you’re only stimulating your brain and fueling your anxiety. It’s just not conducive to quality sleep.

Let Go Of the Small Stuff

As you launch and grow your small business, you’re going to encounter many…ideal situations, shall we say. It’s important to know that some things just aren’t worth fighting for. It’s not easy to determine what is and isn’t worth pursuing, but over time, you’ll learn.
