Sometimes, you may look at a business or product out there and just think to yourself, “How is this a real…thing? Was this the result of a rich person with a lot of time on their hands?” With products like edible dress shoes made of chocolate and “potato parcels” (yes, handwritten messages on actual potatoes), it really does make you wonder how these ideas took off the ground.

Small Business Loans: A Shared Need Among Entrepreneurs

Like any company that needed a little help taking off, these…innovators, shall we say, likely sought out help in the way of small business funding. At The Commercial Finance Group, we can’t say that we’ve worked with all of these novelty businesses that we’ll be describing below, but at the beginning stages, we’re willing to bet that they would have benefitted from asset-based lending or receivable financing.

When you’re in need of cash flow help, we’re the trustworthy small business loan company in Atlanta and Los Angeles that you can turn to in your time of need.

Here are some gathering interesting and 100 percent legitimate businesses that either currently exist or used to exist.

Rent-A-Goat

It takes time — and money — to trim down a large, grassy area. If you don’t want to mess around with a riding lawnmower, why not make a goat unbelievably happy, all while putting them to work in the process? Back in 2015, Amazon rolled out a “goat mowing” services division as part of their Home Services campaign.

We can’t speak to the success of renting goats, but it seems quite useful for people that need to…well, rent a goat. You can read more from Newsweek here.

Rent-A-Mom

Only select individuals are truly in need of a goat, but let’s be honest: everyone needs a mother. After all, that’s where we came from, right? Though renting your own “mom” completely defeats the purpose of fostering independence and self-competency in college, you can always hire one to help out with things like laundry, cleaning, and grocery shopping. We can’t say whether or not they’ll tuck you in bed with a warm glass of milk, though.

Paparazzi For Hire

It’s one thing to hire a professional photographer for various events, and it’s another thing entirely to have a personal photographer follow you around to capture every moment of your day. We’re not sure who wants to see pictures of you eating Captain Crunch in your pajamas, and we’d guess that a personal paparazzi would annoy most reasonable people, but maybe others find the attention to be validating.

Just Food For Dogs

Are humans allowed? Yes. Can you get human food at Just Food For Dogs? No. Creating curated, vet-approved, fresh and tasty meals for the canine in your life, Just Food For Dogs is aptly named and has a number of brick and mortar locations across California. Even the most picky of pups would enjoy a meal from these guys, we’re sure.

Face Slapping Massages

If you’re looking to get your act together and remove facial wrinkles all in one convenient stop, there’s a Thai masseuse named Tata that intentionally slaps peoples faces. Yes, she gets paid to slap people in the face. We doubt that she’s too stressed out.

Though not too many people particularly enjoy being slapped, there’s science to suggest that repeated slaps in the right spots can actually tighten skin and reduce or even remove wrinkles. Now, is it worth the $350 that she supposedly charges? Probably not.

Pay For An Apology

Paying someone else to deliver an apology on your behalf probably doesn’t seem too genuine, but we’ll let you decide that one. Apparently, paid apology services have become quite popular in Japan to help smooth things out with people they’ve wronged.

Apparently, it’s actually a fairly lucrative industry over there to the point where it’s spawned some competition. The amount you pay for your apology depends on the extent of your wrongdoing and how much effort is going into the apology itself.

Paying For An Unknown Item

If there’s a business model that takes advantage of the element of surprise, no one does it better than The Something Store. If you’re willing to gamble $10 (admittedly not a high stakes amount of money by any means), enjoy the anticipation of receiving…something. A visit to the “SomethingTRACKER” shows that they’ve recently shipped out a desktop drum set, a pair of sunglasses, and a cheap watch.

That’s playing it safe, and they’ve been in business for 11 years and counting, so they must be doing something right.

The Pet Loo

This product looks like something you’d find in a SkyMall magazine, and that’s probably because it was once featured in it. As the name might imply, The Pet Loo is a portable, indoor or outdoor square that uses artificial grass to mimic real grass for your pet to take care of their business. If making it outside isn’t an option whether you live in an apartment highrise or you’re recovering from a major surgery, The Pet Loo is actually quite useful.
